If there is a coal train through Eugene. We should do this.

Protests in Germany continue against transportation of Castor nuclear waste containers. Protesters have been rallying since Nov 25 and have tried a variety of techniques to stop the train carrying nuclear waste. Including chaining themselves to concrete blocks on the tracks, placing stones upon the tracks, bending the tracks themselves (which have since been repaired), as well as building a street blockade of tree branches. According to AP reporting from Berlin over 1,000 people were temporary detained on Sunday, Nov 28.

I’ve always loved Beyonce and Jay-Z as a couple - despite being powerhouse artists individually, they’ve managed to lead a relatively private, drama-free life - and I think baby Blue Ivy has transformed her parents into new individuals. This blog is an example of how money (or rather, capitalizing on a personal milestone i.e. births, marriages, etc.) is no longer a priority to the dynamic duo; rather than collect a few million from a tabloid, they shared the first photos of little Blue with the world for free.

Sure, it doesn’t seem like much (if parents want to share their baby’s photos, why should they charge people to see them?) but consider the multimillion-dollar industry that’s fueled by celebrity “news” - how many natural and publicly-owned resources are going into these gossip rags?

I propose we advocate celebrity tabloids to stop printing and offer only online content; celebrities take the high road like Beyonce and Jay-Z and share their personal life on their own terms; and the federal government to begin planning and implementing a sustainably-created nationwide clean energy grid so that everyone has internet access, a vital sign of democracy in the 21st century.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate,
our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves,
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We were born to manifest
the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.”

- Ralph Waldo Emerson
